Community Lutheran School (CLS) is seeking a faithful, dedicated, and qualified 5th–6th Grade Homeroom Teacher who will also teach Science to grades 1–8 for the 2026–2027 school year. This position is part of the team ministry of CLS and supports our mission of providing a Christ‑centered education rooted in Scripture and the Lutheran Confessions.
Position Summary
The teacher serves as a Christian role model in word and action, provides instruction in accordance with the Board of Christian Education (BOCE) guidelines, and integrates Scriptural teaching throughout the curriculum. This position includes homeroom responsibilities for grades 5–6 and science instruction for grades 1–8.
Qualifications
- Holds a valid Iowa teaching license endorsed for the assigned position
- Strong background in Science; Science endorsement preferred
- Demonstrates Christian faith, professional conduct, and effective communication
- Supports and practices the mission, philosophy, and goals of CLS
- Models Christian values and adheres to the Staff Lifestyles Policy (BOCE 5.01.02)
General Responsibilities
- Provide instruction in pure Christian doctrine according to Dr. Martin Luther’s Small Catechism and the confessional writings of the Lutheran Church
- Diagnose, prescribe, evaluate, and direct student learning in alignment with school objectives
- Maintain proper order, discipline, and a nurturing classroom environment
- Integrate faith and learning across all subjects
- Teach Science to grades 1–8 using hands‑on, developmentally appropriate lessons
- Fulfill assigned grade‑level, staff, and co‑curricular responsibilities
- Complete required reports, records, and forms on time
- Maintain positive Christian relationships with colleagues, parents, pastors, and students
- Attend faculty meetings and school events as outlined in the teaching contract
- Follow Matthew 18 principles in conflict resolution
- Engage in continuing education and professional growth
