JOB GOAL: The TVI is to provide direct and/or consultative special education services specific to vision loss. The TVI teacher provides support to students, teachers, and parents.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS: Hold or be eligible for a minimum of a Level 4- Bachelor’s degree and Certification/License required. Preferred Orientation and Mobility certification Ability to organize own work, set priorities, and meet critical deadlines. Ability to differentiate instruction, integrate technology into the curriculum with tiered interventions, and apply student data for instructional planning. Skilled at collaborative decision making for individual student and staff growth. Skilled at working with a diverse group of students with disabilities. High integrity, excellent character, and good professional reputation. Abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators. Ability to be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work. Ability to perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting. Ability to perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds. Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.
JOB DUTIES: 2 Is present at work every day and arrives at assigned time. Demonstrates an attitude and demeanor that contributes to an atmosphere of harmony and goodwill in the workplace. Implement approved procedures for the identification of students with vision-impaired needs. Complete all assigned case management responsibilities with appropriate documentation as needed. Implement record-keeping procedures and maintain inventories for all materials checked out to the teacher. Uses specialized methodology for instruction according to the population needs (for example: Braille, dome magnifiers, high-contrast materials, etc.). Implement programs for students with disabilities in the assigned schools and in accordance with system, state, and federal policies, and regulations. Assess the need and maintains vision impaired equipment, as needed, following the Universal Precautions Guidelines. Assists the evaluation team with initial and re-evaluations for students with vision impairments. Serves as a resource to any staff members providing support to a student receiving VI services. Complete all required reports, assessments, and forms in a timely manner. Monitor student progress through data collection and adjust services and accommodations as appropriate. Complete required documentation for IEP goals and objectives as required for each grading period. Participate in IEP meetings as appropriate for eligibility, placement, and annual review/amendments. Ensure confidentiality of all student, staff, parent, school, district, and stakeholder information. Perform all other duties as assigned.
