My brother is a paraplegic and now in hospice as a terminal patient. He has a Kennedy ulcer, so his internal organs are starting to shut down. We don't know how much longer he has, could be days, weeks or even months. Though the nurses lean towards months based on knowledge from similar cases they've had. He gets confused hallucinates and forgets things. He isn’t the easiest person to deal with, never has been, especially for family members. He tends to take better to people who haven't been with him long term. Which is why we are trying to find someone new who is willing to work with him. I currently am his care taker but I need a break. I've been with him for 10+ years and need to find something else to do. I care about him, I want to help him but not at the cost of my own well being. And since he has become terminal, and because I'm family, he takes out some of his frustrations on me. But he is more mannerly to his hospice workers and the nurses who are currently doing 3 visits a week. Which is why I think a new person would really help. You will have to deal with family members being around him and visiting him. Some may also be a bit overbearing. I apologize for that but it's just part of the job.
