Overview
The Child Care Assistant assists in creating and maintain a safe, engaging, and educational environment that promotes growth, curiosity, and well-being. In this position you will mainly care for children at the end of the day. Your enthusiasm and compassion will help children feel comfortable, safe, and cared for as their day at school comes to a close. This is a "float" position, meaning you might work with any of our age groups - infants, toddlers, or preschoolers.
Responsibilities
- Actively supervise and engage with children during end of day activities, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times
- Support children with personal care routines, including diapering, feeding, and hygiene practices
- Engage children in play, educational exercises, and social interactions to promote developmental milestones
- Communicate regularly with the lead teacher regarding children's needs and any concerns
- Maintain a clean, organized classroom environment that encourages exploration and safety
- Follow all policies mandated by MiLEAP and the school district/program
Skills
- Knowledge of child development principles and early childhood education techniques
- Experience working with children in daycare, preschool, or similar settings is preferred
- Willingness to obtain First aid and CPR certification (including pediatric first aid) to respond effectively in emergencies
- Classroom management skills to foster positive behavior and social skills among children
- Ability to work with children with disabilities or special needs using specialized strategies when necessary
- Excellent communication skills for parent interaction and team collaboration
- Familiarity with mandated reporting laws to ensure compliance with legal requirements for child safety
- Must be able to pass a Comprehensive Background Check
