About the Role
This role is for a GM in a purchasing-agent business that sources food and packaging products for U.S.-based customers, with a particular emphasis on imported goods. With approximately $15 million in annual sales, the company runs lean and is positioned for growth.
We are seeking a diligent, organized, and highly motivated individual to run the company end to end as a hands-on small-business executive — handling purchasing, sales, accounting, and international logistics, and managing a small team. The company has an established base of vendors and customers, and the first priority is maintaining and strengthening those relationships. From there, the role carries the autonomy and upside to expand vendors, products, and customers — and to grow the team — over time.

What You'll Do
Vendor Relationships & Purchasing
- Maintain and strengthen relationships with the established vendor base — the top priority for this role.
- Place orders with vendors and manage international purchasing transactions end to end.
- Source food and packaging products both domestically and overseas on behalf of U.S. customers, vetting new suppliers for reliability, quality, and pricing.
- Negotiate terms, pricing, and agreements with domestic and international vendors.
- Expand the product offering and develop new vendor relationships as the business grows.
Import & Logistics
- Manage the full import process for overseas goods, including ocean freight and domestic freight.
- Coordinate customs clearance and ensure all duties are paid accurately and on time.
- Arrange and manage shipping, freight forwarding, and customs brokerage end to end.
- Handle currency conversion, cargo insurance, and brokerage fees.
Sales & Customer Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customers, managing relationships and orders.
- Set customer pricing and prepare customer invoicing.
- Identify opportunities to grow existing accounts and develop new business.
- Oversee part time CSR
Accounting & Finance
- Own day-to-day accounting, including accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Execute bank transaction payments directly to vendors and service providers.
- Utilize a fractional CFO for billing and invoicing support.
- Monitor cash flow, margins, and the overall financial health of the business.
Team & Leadership
- Manage a small part-time team, including a part-time accountant and a customer service representative.
- Hire and develop additional staff as the business expands.
Compliance & Quality
- Ensure all sourced products comply with U.S. food safety rules and guidelines.
- Maintain required certifications and supplier verification consistent with FDA and FSMA requirements, including Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) obligations for imported food.
What We're Looking For
Required
- Working knowledge of accounting fundamentals (AP/AR, cash management) and comfort with bookkeeping software.
- Comfort operating in a hands-on small-business environment and managing a small team.
- Strong negotiation skills and sound commercial judgment.
- Exceptional organization, self-direction, and follow-through — someone who can run the show with minimal oversight.
Preferred
- Experience in the food, beverage, or packaging industries.
- Knowledge of U.S. food safety regulations (FDA, FSMA, FSVP).
- Proven experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain management.
- Familiarity with international trade and importing — Incoterms, customs duties, freight, and customs brokerage.
- Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain, finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Pay: $100,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
