Under general supervision, the Elections Deputy Clerk performs a variety of clerical work assisting in preparations for elections and voter registration. Work involves assisting with voter registration, scanning and filing records, processing mail, answering telephones, and assisting the public. Regular and punctual attendance is required. A positive attitude, happy demeanor and a genuine interest in people is necessary. The ability to communicate clearly, listen carefully and perform tasks correctly, with efficiency. To be organized and focused with the ability to multi-task while being interrupted in the pursuit of daily assignments.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Processes new voter registrations; updates voter registration records with address changes, name changes, or other current information.
- Assists with and otherwise troubleshoots issues with applications for voter registration and related documents.
- Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, voter registration cards, voter identification documentation, candidate petitions, disclosure reports, regulations, procedures, manuals, reference materials, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.
- Maintains and updates addresses in the statewide voter registration system.
- Processes new Online Voter Registrations and any address/name changes made through the state’s OVR program.
- Maintains a current knowledge of election procedures and practices, departmental procedures, and other applicable laws or guidelines; attends workshops and training sessions as appropriate.
- Assists the general public, candidates, board members, poll workers, vendors, and the media with questions and concerns.
- Answers telephone and greets visitors; provides information and assistance; refers to appropriate personnel.
- Scans, indexes, and files registration cards, campaign reports, voter applications, and related documents.
- Sorts and processes mail.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum of 2 years of clerical experience, with at least 2 years in an office setting preferred.
- Position is primarily indoors in an air-conditioned environment and is primarily during regular office hours (Mon-Fri). During an election cycle there may be extended hours both on weekdays and weekends.
- Be a registered voter in Tennessee.
Licenses and Certifications
Must have a TN Driver License-- will occasionally be required to travel to various locations across Wilson County for an election or VR event and to other locations for training.

Pay: $37,356.80 - $45,822.40 per year
