GLO Resources is currently hiring an experienced Sandblaster/Painter to work in New Orleans, LA. The pay rate is between $22 - $26 per hour experience dependent. This position works at night with a schedule from Monday – Friday, 4:30 pm - 12:30 am with occasional overtime depending on project deadlines.
Position Summary:
The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented and safety-conscious Sandblaster/Painter to perform surface preparation and protective coatings application on inland marine components and structures, including barges, towboats, and steel components. This role is critical in maintaining the structural integrity and corrosion resistance of our marine fleet and infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform abrasive blasting (sandblasting or grit blasting) to remove old coatings, rust, and contaminants from steel surfaces.
- Apply primers, epoxy coatings, and marine-grade paints using airless and conventional spray equipment, brushes, and rollers.
- Mix and prepare paint and coating according to manufacturer specifications.
- Inspect surfaces before and after blasting and painting to ensure proper surface profile, cleanliness, and coating coverage.
- Follow proper procedures for masking, taping, and containment to protect non-coated areas.
- Operate and maintain sandblasting and painting equipment, compressors, and ventilation systems.
- Adhere to environmental and safety regulations, including confined space entry, hot work, fall protection, and PPE use.
- Maintain detailed job records and documentation as required for quality control and compliance.
- Other duties may be assigned as necessary
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in industrial sandblasting and painting, preferably in a marine or fabrication setting.
- Familiarity with industry-standard surface prep and coating procedures (e.g., SSPC/NACE standards).
- Ability to safely operate blasting and painting equipment and use measuring tools such as wet film gauges and profile comparators.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces, climbing ladders, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and wear required PPE, including full-face respirators and protective suits.
