York College (NY), an NCAA Division III institution and member of the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC), is seeking an individual to serve as Assistant Men's and Women's Swimming Coach (Part-Time). Under the direction of the Director of Athletics and Head Coach, responsibilities will include coaching, recruiting, fundraising, strength & conditioning, developing annual service/engagement projects for student-athletes, practice planning and preparation, scheduling, assisting head coach in all phases of student-athlete mentoring and evaluation, academic monitoring, and other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities of all Positions at York Athletics:
- Adhere to York College, CUNY, CUNYAC, York Athletics, and NCAA rules and regulations.
- Maintain knowledge of departmental activities, sports schedules, policies and procedures.
- Foster cooperative working relationships with immediate supervisor and staff members who work within and outside the work unit.
- Support the athletic department's goals and philosophies as described by the Director of Athletics and work to achieve and uphold the department's mission statement and core values.
- Maintain a positive attitude toward performing job duties and working with other staff members.
- Demonstrate professional decorum at all times while representing York College.
- Successfully pass and maintain up-to-date First Aid, CPR/AED certification.
- Must have proven recruiting experience and success.
- Must successfully pass and maintain annual NCAA Rules Test.
Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year institution. Prior experience coaching as well as experience competing at the collegiate level. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Position Responsibilities Include:
- Assist with the preparation, planning, supervision, and execution of team practices.
- Support the recruitment and retention of academically and athletically qualified student-athletes.
- Assist with the coordination of practice and meet day activities during primary sport season.
- Assist in coordinating scheduling and facility use for the natatorium to support team practices and training, while helping to avoid conflicts with academic classes, recreation, intramurals, rentals, and special events.
- Assist in coordinating with primary facility schedulers and campus partners to communicate team needs and support scheduling decisions.
- Assist with the management of home swimming meets, supporting event logistics, coordinating with officials, and helping ensure compliance with NCAA competition regulations.
- Assist with the management and maintenance of the recruiting database, ensuring accurate data entry, compliance tracking, and communication with prospective student-athletes.
- Develop and expand the recruiting network by establishing professional relationships with local junior college and high school swimming coaches.
- Exemplify excellent leadership and proper code of conduct throughout all phases of the competitive seasons, including pre-and-post season.
- Work to ensure the ultimate welfare and safety of the student-athletes and their educational goals.
- Demonstrate an explicit understanding of all NCAA Division III and CUNYAC conference rules, regulations, policies & procedures.
- Attend all home and away meets, overseeing student-athlete participation in intercollegiate competition.
- Meet NCAA minimum contests and participants requirements for sports sponsorship for the academic year.
- Ensure that roster expectations are met with a minimum of at least 12 student-athletes per team for eight regular-season meets per gender.
- Abide by all policies, practices, and philosophies of the York College Intercollegiate Athletics Program, York College, City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC).
