Position Summary
The Court Interventionist serves as a liaison between the school district, families, and the judicial system to address chronic absenteeism and educational neglect through a coordinated legal response. This role ensures the effective management of truancy cases from referral through court resolution, working to increase student engagement and legal compliance while reducing absenteeism.
Major Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of up to 50 students actively involved in truancy or educational neglect court processes.
- Review and validate petitions for legal sufficiency and compliance with 105 ILCS 5/26-1 et seq. and 705 ILCS 405/.
- Ensure all mandatory interventions (counseling, alternative programs, referrals) have been implemented prior to petition submission.
- Submit verified petitions to the Court Specialist for formal court filing.
- Provide updated court reports.
- Attend court proceedings and monitor the implementation of judicial recommendations.
- Serve as the designated district liaison for court-involved attendance matters.
- Maintain FERPA-compliant, confidential communication with students, families, school staff, and judicial entities.
- Conduct in-person meetings with students and families to support case management and intervention planning.
- For comprehensive program data tracking, maintain accurate and timely weekly case notes using the designated tracking software—submitted by Friday—including full documentation of attendance, family and student contact, meetings, outside service contact, and home visits.
- Collaborate with district attendance teams, school personnel, and external partners to align services and monitor outcomes.
- Track student progress and compliance with court-ordered interventions, maintaining detailed case documentation.
- Participate in regular collaboration and planning meetings with school and ROE leadership.
- Provide timely data for quarterly reporting, including petition accuracy, case timeliness, compliance, and absenteeism outcomes.
- Uphold responsibilities strictly within the defined scope of services; any additional tasks require prior approval from leadership.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Court Specialist or Senior Director of Student Support Services.
- Attend regular and ongoing meetings facilitated by the Senior Director of Student Support Services and the Court Program Manager.
Job Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Criminal Justice, or related field.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with youth in educational, social service, or legal settings.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and current car insurance.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound professional judgment.
- Successful completion of Illinois and FBI background checks, and compliance with Faith’s Law employment history review.
Preferred
- Experience with truancy intervention, juvenile court procedures, or educational neglect cases.
- Familiarity with local social service systems and community supports.
- Illinois Professional Educator License or Substitute License.
Working Conditions
