We are seeking an experienced Human Resources Generalist to join a growing environmental remediation and heavy civil construction company. This is a hands-on role responsible for managing the full employee lifecycle, including recruiting, onboarding, payroll, benefits administration, compliance, and employee relations while supporting both office and field personnel.
The ideal candidate is an organized self-starter who enjoys building processes, partnering with leadership, and helping foster a positive workplace culture.
- Manage full-cycle recruiting for office and field positions.
- Coordinate onboarding, pre-employment screenings, new hire paperwork, and HRIS setup.
- Process payroll, including union payroll, ensuring accurate classifications and pay rates.
- Administer employee benefits, leave programs, and retirement plan enrollment.
- Maintain personnel records, HR documentation, and company policies.
- Ensure compliance with federal and New Jersey employment laws, including I-9, E-Verify, FLSA, FMLA, ACA, and EEO requirements.
- Serve as a trusted resource for employee relations, performance management, and workplace investigations.
- Coordinate workers' compensation claims and assist with OSHA recordkeeping alongside operations.
- Partner with leadership to support employee engagement initiatives and continuous improvement of HR processes.
- 5+ years of Human Resources Generalist experience, preferably supporting a construction, engineering, environmental, or industrial organization.
- Experience managing payroll and benefits administration; HRIS experience required (UKG preferred).
- Strong understanding of federal and New Jersey employment laws and HR compliance.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field preferred.
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification is a plus.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Ability to work independently while supporting both office and field personnel in a fast-paced environment.
Pay Range: $70,000 – $80,000+ (commensurate with experience)
