Job Summary
The Group Fitness Coach is responsible for delivering safe, effective, and engaging group workouts that help members reach their fitness goals. This role involves programming and leading structured classes, fostering a motivating environment, and ensuring proper exercise technique for participants of all fitness levels.
Key Responsibilities:
Class Programming & Execution
- Design and program effective ~50-55 minute workouts, including a dynamic warm-up, main workout, and cool-down (if applicable)
- Tailor workouts to align with the goals of each class type
- Ensure workouts are organized and appropriate for a range of fitness levels
- Lead safe, engaging, and motivating group fitness classes
- Demonstrate and coach proper form and exercise technique
- Provide exercise modifications and progressions/regressions based on individual needs or limitations
- Monitor class intensity, fatigue levels, and overall member safety throughout class
- Motivate and encourage members throughout the workout
Class Preparation
- Arrive prior to class start time to set up all necessary equipment
- Clearly write and organize the workout on the whiteboard before members arrive
- Be fully prepared to begin coaching immediately at class start time
Member Engagement & Retention
- Ask members about their fitness goals and help support their progress
- Create a positive, inclusive, and high-energy class environment
- Build strong relationships with members to foster accountability and retention
- Actively engage with members before, during, and after class
- Promote club programs, services, events, and challenges to increase member engagement
Knowledge & Professionalism
- Maintain a strong understanding of muscle groups, movement patterns, and exercise technique
- Stay current on fitness trends, training methods, certifications, and safety practices
- Communicate effectively with gym management regarding scheduling, attendance, and member feedback
- Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to dress code expectations, including wearing clean Snap Fitness attire during classes
- Enforce gym policies and safety procedures during all classes
Team & Club Support
- Collaborate with coaches and staff to enhance programming and member experience
- Support gym events, challenges, and community-building efforts
- Assist with social media and Facebook group class postings
- Represent the gym’s culture and values in all interactions
Safety & Facility Standards
- Prioritize member safety at all times
- Ensure proper equipment use and maintain a clean, organized workout space before and after classes
- Handle member questions, concerns, or injuries professionally and appropriately
Qualifications
- Certified Personal Trainer or Group Fitness Instructor (NASM, ACE, ISSA, or equivalent preferred)
- Strong knowledge of strength training, conditioning, and functional movement
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to lead and manage groups in a high-energy environment
Preferred Experience
- Previous group fitness coaching experience
- Experience programming workouts for diverse fitness levels
