Some of the most important moments in a child's healing happen during the quiet hours of the night. As an Overnight Awake Staff member, you will provide attentive supervision, maintain a safe and structured environment, and help ensure children feel secure, supported, and prepared for the next day.

Our family-style cottage homes provide children—often sibling groups—with a safe, stable, and nurturing environment where they experience consistent relationships, healthy routines, and opportunities to heal and grow.
Every member of our direct care team plays an important role in helping children experience safety, stability, and hope.
Position Overview
Overnight Awake Staff serve as the primary caregivers responsible for children during overnight hours.
Your primary responsibility is to provide continuous awake supervision while maintaining a calm, safe, and structured overnight environment that protects the continuity of care established within each cottage home.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you'll partner with Cottage Parents, Relief Cottage Parents, Assistant Cottage Parents, Case Managers, the Treatment Director, and Administration to help ensure children experience consistency, safety, and stability throughout the night and into the next day.
Typical Schedule
- Overnight shifts are typically 10:00 PM – 6:00 AM
- Children's Village provides care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays. Employees should expect to work schedules that may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and other times based on organizational needs.
- Number of scheduled shifts varies based on organizational needs and employee availability.
- Assignments may occur in either cottage home.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide continuous awake supervision throughout the entire shift.
- Monitor children's safety, well-being, and overnight needs.
- Maintain a calm, structured, and secure overnight environment.
- Support established bedtime routines, overnight expectations, and morning transitions.
- Comfort and assist children who wake during the night.
- Respond appropriately to illness, emergencies, emotional distress, or behavioral concerns.
- Complete required documentation and communicate significant overnight events to the daytime caregiving team.
- Help maintain consistency and continuity of care within the Children's Village Cottage Home Program.
Qualifications Required
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to remain awake, alert, and attentive throughout the entire shift.
- Ability to successfully complete required background checks, fingerprinting, and drug screening.
Preferred
- Experience working with children, youth, or families.
- Experience in childcare, education, residential care, healthcare, ministry, or related fields.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care.
- Strong observation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
