POSITION TITLE: Industrial Blaster/Prep Worker
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the paint department leader, supervisor, plant manager and/or designee, the Industrial Blaster/Prep Worker prepares parts and truck bodies for blasting, sanding, priming and painting, to achieve the quality finish appearance required. The Blaster/Prep Worker will complete the preparation and blasting process and related activities as provided for GapVax, Inc. In addition to the blast and prep process the Blaster/ Prep Worker will perform designated quality control functions, inventory control, training of new staff and general shop maintenance as directed. The Blast / Prep Worker will perform these functions in a safe and efficient manner.

Blast/ Prep Working Competencies and Job Tasks
Prep:
- Remove parts from vehicles, using hand tools and overhead crane
- Gather parts to be blasted using Forklifts
- Repair imperfections, nicks, dents, and blemishes in the metal with body filler.
- Mask off surfaces with plastic and masking tape and paper to protect surfaces during painting.
- Read work orders or receive instructions from supervisors to determine work requirements.
- Prepare various metal surfaces for painting using grinders and sanders, accordingly.
- Hang parts on appropriate carts and racks.
- Use and maintain appropriate PPE
BLASTING RESPOSIBILITIES:
- Blast parts and truck bodies using industrial blast equipment to achieve the desired surface profile
- Cover and or plug areas that do not get blasted
- Use and maintain appropriate PPE
- Observe machine gauges and equipment operation to detect defects or deviations from standards and adjust as necessary.
- Set up and operate and maintain the blast booth and dust collector.
- Maintain a neat and clean work area
Clean-up:
- Dispose of hazardous waste in an appropriate manner.
- Read MDS sheets and other safety related literature in order to determine work requirements.
Inspection:
- Inspect blasted surfaces of work pieces to verify conformance to specifications and retouch any defective areas.
- Inspect blast equipment for wear and inform leader/ supervisor if repairs are needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. High school diploma or GED
2. Previous blasting experience is a plus
3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
4. Experience in or willingness to learn the operation forklift / crane
5. Must have basic hand tools and appropriate storage
6. Must have high standards of quality and pride in work
7. Ability to learn the operation of all types of trucks and accessories
8. Able to solve problems and think analytically
9. Must be able to work effectively independently and with others
10. Must be able to handle constructive criticism
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
1. Ability to use standard hand tools, power tools, blasting equipment, and grinders

Equipment and Tools
- Understand and operate the following tools according to the safety policy: forklift, cranes, clock in/out computer system, straight screwdrivers, Phillips screw drivers, sockets, ratchets, hammer, chisels, blow guns, grinders, sanders, media blasters, sandblasters, pressure washers, aerial lifts, pressure washers, compressed air systems.
Fork Lift / Crane
- Understand and operate the forklift and cranes according to safety policy
Cooperation
- Work with leader and supervisor to procure needed supplies
- Present accurate and time and material information to accounting
- Work with foreman to blast and prepare parts for the paint application
- Work with safety manager in order to maintain a safe working environment
Policies/Procedures
- Follow safety personal protective equipment policy
- Observe scheduled work hours and maintain appropriate attendance according to policy
