Position Summary
The Peanut Seed Mill Operator is an essential member of a five-person production team responsible for processing high-quality seed peanuts. Operators work under the direction of the shift manager to clean, shell, size, separate, treat, and bag peanuts while maintaining production efficiency and product quality.
This position is physically demanding and requires dependable individuals who enjoy hands-on work, can work effectively as part of a team, and are willing to learn all aspects of seed mill operations. Prior experience in agricultural processing or industrial manufacturing is beneficial but not required. We are willing to train motivated individuals with a strong work ethic and positive attitude.
This position typically works 12-hour shifts, six days per week during the processing season. Employees should expect approximately 70-hour work weeks, with overtime paid at 1.5 times the regular hourly rate for all hours worked beyond 40 each week.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Operate assigned processing equipment safely and efficiently.
- Monitor machinery for proper operation and promptly report any problems
- Assist with cleaning, shelling, separating, and bagging seed peanuts.
- Move materials throughout the facility and maintain continuous product flow.
- Keep accurate production records, equipment logs, and quality documentation.
- Help perform routine maintenance and assist with mechanical repairs when equipment breakdowns occur.
- Assist with replacing bearings, drive chains, screens, elevator buckets, belts, and other wear components as directed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment throughout each shift.
- Follow all safety procedures and properly use required personal protective equipment.
- Work cooperatively with fellow crew members to meet daily production goals.
- Perform general labor duties as needed to support mill operations.
- Help prepare equipment for seasonal startup and shutdown.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts and approximately 70 hours per week during peak processing season.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods.
- Ability to repeatedly lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, bend, kneel, crawl, and work in confined spaces when necessary.
- Dependable attendance and strong punctuality.
- Ability to work safely in hot, cold, dusty, and noisy industrial environments.
- Willingness to learn new equipment and procedures.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Basic math skills and attention to detail for recording production information.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in agricultural processing, manufacturing, grain handling, seed processing, or industrial production.
- Mechanical aptitude and experience using hand and power tools.
- Experience assisting with machinery maintenance or equipment repairs.
- Forklift operating experience or certification.
- Experience operating conveyors, bucket elevators, bagging equipment, or similar industrial machinery.
- Basic welding or fabrication experience.
- Experience maintaining production or inventory records.
