The Middle School Counselor implements a comprehensive, data-driven school counseling program that supports the academic, career, and social-emotional development of all students. Reporting to the Building Principal and collaborating with the Director of Counseling & Social Services, you will provide individual and small-group counseling, deliver responsive classroom guidance, and partner with families to remove barriers to learning.
- Certified Professional: Valid Missouri Support Services Certification in School Counseling (K-8 or K-12) required.
- Educationally Prepared: Master’s Degree in School Counseling required.
- Adolescent Expert: Deep understanding of the psychological, social, and emotional development of 11-to-14-year-olds.
- Restorative Champion: Strong background in Restorative Practices, Trauma-Informed Care, and Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS).
- Collaborative Communicator: Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust with high-energy students, diverse families, and multidisciplinary staff.
- Social-Emotional Mentorship: Deliver proactive classroom lessons focused on emotional regulation, digital citizenship, conflict resolution, and healthy relationships.
- Targeted Interventions: Facilitate evidence-based small groups and short-term individual counseling for students managing anxiety, grief, academic challenges, or peer conflict.
- Academic & Career Pathways: Guide students in goal-setting, high school readiness, and foundational career exploration using individual success plans.
- Crisis Stabilization: Serve as a frontline member of the school’s safety and crisis response team, providing immediate intervention and coordination when students are in distress.
- Wraparound Advocacy: Consult with parents, teachers, and administrators to develop behavioral strategies, participating actively in 504 and IEP processes.
- Data-Driven Practice: Monitor school-wide attendance, behavior, and academic data to design targeted outreach for at-risk scholars.

- Work Year: Standard teacher contract layout with summers, weekends, and school breaks off.
- Salary: Based on the Teacher/Professional Salary Schedule (commensurate with education and experience).
