Overview
Under the direction of the Principal, the Student Advocate supports middle school students by promoting academic success, personal and social development, positive behavior, and overall well-being. The Student Advocate works directly with students to help ensure equitable access to a safe, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate learning environment.
Services may be provided through individual and group activities, classroom and assembly participation, and other student-support initiatives. The Student Advocate collaborates closely with teachers, school counselors, staff, students, and families to address behavioral and social-emotional needs, increase student motivation and engagement, and support academic achievement.

Representative Duties
E = Essential Functions
- Gathers and tracks data on students who are identified as in need of additional social-emotional and attendance support. E
- Assists to create and execute a plan for at-risk students (behavior, academics, attendance, and/or social emotional needs). E
- Provide structured, goal-oriented chronic absenteeism prevention, intervention and responsive services to meet the identified needs of individuals or groups of students regarding academic, attendance, and personal/social issues. E
- Provide counseling, crisis intervention, and group services to students, including psychosocial assessment and treatment planning, advocacy, referrals and follow-up with the family and outside agencies, as appropriate, with guidance from the school counselor. E
- Conduct home visits as necessary. E
- Support students using restorative practices and assist with the implementation of on-campus consequences. E
- Assist with the Crisis Response Team. E
- Plan and monitor students’ educational development and goals. E
- Assists with implementing homebase lesson plans related to student success. E
- Attend established school-wide-sponsored activities (e.g. Open House, Back-to-School Nights, Graduation, programs and activities). E
- Attend staff meetings to collaborate with teachers and staff. E
- Communicate with parents on a regular basis, ensuring that there are resources provided in their native language. E
- Coordinate with Family Support Services to implement social/emotional interventions and counseling services. E
- Coordinate with the school administration to implement a positive behavior support system, using restorative practices. E
- Promote equity and access for all students. E
- Maintain an open door policy for students. E
- Conduct individual and group counseling according to student needs assessments. E
- Advocate for students during times of emotional need. E
- Able to support key decision making with relevant data.
- Attend student study team meetings and IEPs.
- Performs other duties as assigned during crises or emergency situations as determined by the Principal.
- Perform additional site related tasks that may be unique to elementary, middle or high school programs. E
- Performs other related duties as assigned. E
Qualifications
- Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in counseling, education, communications, public administration, business administration, social work, or related field
- Experience in individual and group counseling for youth and families, including case management preferred

Pay: $22.86 - $30.14 per hour
