The Cook / Meal Preparation Specialist is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious, well-balanced meals for residents in a large residential program. This position ensures food is prepared safely, efficiently, and in accordance with dietary requirements, sanitation standards, and organizational policies.

Prepare, cook, and serve meals for residents according to planned menus

Assist with food preparation, including chopping, portioning, and storing ingredients

Ensure meals meet nutritional guidelines and any special dietary needs

Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen, equipment, and food storage areas

Follow all food safety and health regulations (local, state, and federal)

Monitor food inventory and report shortages or needs to management

Properly store food to prevent spoilage and contamination

Clean and sanitize dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment

Work collaboratively with staff to ensure meal schedules are met

Maintain a safe and organized work environment

Prior experience in cooking and food preparation, preferably in a large residential program, healthcare, or institutional setting

Experience preparing meals in high-volume environments

Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and proper food handling procedures

Ability to follow menus, recipes, and dietary guidelines

Strong organizational and time management skills

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to [insert weight requirement, e.g., 25–50 lbs]

High school diploma or equivalent preferred

ServSafe Certification or equivalent food safety certification

Experience working in behavioral health, residential care, or similar environments
