QUALIFICATIONS:
Appropriate DESE license and endorsement as required by the applicable SSEC program. Experience working with students in a school setting with academic, behavioral and/or emotional challenges, learning or developmental disabilities or autism preferred. Must be able and willing to physically restrain and/or lift students.

WORK YEAR School Year: (183 days includes 3 professional days )
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Demonstrate common teaching competencies as defined by the Department of Education.
- Assess students through analysis of student data using both formal and informal assessments and identify students at-risk relative to reading and literacy skills.
- Coordinate with the student’s teacher(s) as well as all team members to provide appropriate accommodations and a comprehensive evaluation profile for each student.
- Coordinate with the Program directors for each program to organize necessary student evaluations and staff training for the appropriate school year.
- Using the results of formal and informal assessments, evaluate each student’s skills and develop appropriate IEP goals with the team based upon results and experience. Provide written evaluation reports and annual summaries and present the findings at team meetings.
a. Review evaluation findings and recommendations with the student’s team and develop action plans for needed differentiated instruction and next steps.
- Provide direct services to those students who have been identified as needing more reading and literacy support than can be provided by the special education classroom teacher. Direct service can include working with students 1:1(individual), in small groups and in classroom settings from elementary through the secondary level.
- Use instructional methods and materials that are appropriate for implementing the respective goals and objectives of students’ IEP.
- Plan and conduct literacy workshops/training to present new instructional strategies and materials to classroom teachers and aides.
- Assists in monitoring the effectiveness of the district ELA program and acts as a resource when selecting and piloting new curricula.
- Develop an organized schedule, approved by the assigned program director, to include 1:1 direct instruction for pull out and push in needs, small groups and classroom support.
- Ensure the workspace is neat, orderly, and accommodates students’ needs.
- Ensure timely and orderly completion of daily activities as indicated in the weekly schedule.
- Ensure that curriculum frameworks set forth by Collaborative and DOE are met and integrated into the students’ IEP.
- Participate in collaboration with all support specialists (OT, PT, Speech Therapists, Clinicians, Vision, O&M, Adaptive PE and Assistive Technology Team) to provide a comprehensive service delivery program for each child.
- Assist the Program Director, if requested, in the intake of a student referral and the transition of a student from the program with respective reading/literacy needs.
- Follow all policies and procedures as established by the South Shore Educational Collaborative
- Participate in all required in-service training
- Implement appropriate behavioral programs for students when necessary.
- Restrain and/or lift students when necessary.
- Use de-escalation and restraint procedures as prescribed in SSEC approved restraint training programs when appropriate with students.
- Follow protective restraint procedures at all times when working with students as prescribed in SSEC approved restraint training programs.
- Use appropriate physical techniques when lifting and/or moving students as prescribed in SSEC approved restraint training programs.
- Consistent work attendance which includes; arriving to work on time each day, working the entire day and notifying the program director/coordinator a minimum of 24 hours in advance for a personal day whenever possible.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding information for all SSEC staff, students and their families.
- Perform other duties as may from time to time be assigned by the program director/coordinator.
Mandatory participation in all of the following SSEC sponsored trainings to include but not limited to:
1. Successful completion of SSEC approved restraint trainings, full and/or recertification annually as appropriate.
2. Maintain active CPR/First Aid certification.
3. Successful completion of all SSEC approved threat assessment training.
4. Successful completion of required training hours for 7D licensure if requested by the program director/coordinator.
