Job Overview
The School Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting students to and from school, extracurricular activities, and special events while maintaining a safe and positive environment on the bus. Drivers must comply with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as district policies and procedures.
Duties
- Safely operate school buses, following designated routes and schedules with precision.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety, mechanical integrity, and cleanliness before each route.
- Communicate professionally and effectively with students, parents, school staff, and dispatchers to coordinate pick-up and drop-off times.
- Manage student behavior on the bus using positive behavior management techniques to promote safety and respect.
- Assist children with boarding and exiting the bus, including those with special needs or requiring childcare support.
- Maintain accurate logs of routes, student attendance, and any incidents during transit.
- Respond promptly to emergency situations or vehicle malfunctions, following established safety protocols.
Qualifications
- Valid Texas commercial driver’s license (CDL) with a school bus endorsement or the ability to obtain one upon hire.
- Proven experience in bus driving, commercial driving, or similar roles involving transportation of children or passengers.
- Strong communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse communities.
- Ability to work flexible hours aligned with school schedules, including split shift mornings and afternoons.
- Experience working with children or in childcare environments is highly desirable.
- Excellent customer service skills combined with patience and behavior management capabilities.
Pay: $22.00 - $27.91 per hour
