Prestigious DC Museum is seeking a Visitor Services Aide to provide support for 24 hours per week , long-term contract opportunity! Must be a US Citizen, able to commute to DC, and able to pass a background check.
Responsibilities include:
Assisting visitors
Strong customer service
Museum or similar experience a plus
Track group reservations (attention to detail)
Assist with various daily programs
Conduct surveys from visitors
Schedule:
- Day shift
- Schedule required is FRIDAYS, SATURDAYS and SUNDAYS
Duties
- Welcome visitors, providing information about exhibits, programs, and museum services to enhance their experience.
- Assist with ticketing, membership registration, and visitor inquiries both in person and via social media platforms.
- Support educational programs by facilitating activities for children and classroom groups, including preparation and classroom management.
- Conduct research on collections to support cataloging efforts and assist with collection management tasks.
- Manage databases related to visitor information, memberships, and program participation to ensure accurate record-keeping.
- Contribute to fundraising initiatives by promoting donation opportunities and assisting with grant proposal writing.
- Develop engaging content for social media channels to increase community engagement and promote upcoming events.
- Support public speaking engagements, tours, and presentations to diverse audiences.
- Assist with event planning, including logistics coordination for exhibitions, workshops, or outreach activities.
- Maintain organizational standards for cleanliness, safety protocols, and visitor comfort throughout the museum.
Skills
- Strong customer service orientation with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability in public speaking and delivering engaging presentations.
- Experience with social media management tools and content creation.
- Knowledge of fundraising strategies, including grant proposal writing.
- Familiarity with databases used for collection cataloging and visitor management systems.
- Experience working with children or in educational settings; classroom or teaching experience is highly desirable.
- Excellent research abilities complemented by strong writing skills for reports or promotional materials.
- Organizational skills necessary for managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to communicate effectively across diverse audiences in both verbal and written formats.
- Basic budgeting knowledge to support event planning and program development.
- Experience with collection management practices including cataloging and documentation.
