PITCO FOODS ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & SAFETY ASSISTANT MANAGER
PITCO Foods is a large independent food service distributor in Northern California. Based in San Jose, CA, PITCO also has distribution centers in Brisbane, San Leandro, and Sacramento.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Assistant Manager supports the EHS Manager and team in the development, implementation, and administration of company-wide safety and environmental programs. This role plays a critical part in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and fostering a safe, healthy, and compliant work environment across all PITCO Foods facilities.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Assist in the maintenance and updating of safety documentation, including SOPs, policies, and procedures.
- Support safety inspections of equipment, machinery, and mechanical safety guards.
- Assist in the delivery of safety training programs, including new or updated SOPs and policies.
- Support the implementation and administration of safety programs, including but not limited to:
- Hazard Communication (HazCom / Right-to-Know)
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Fall Protection
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
- Environmental compliance programs
- Assist with work-related injury investigations, ensuring corrective actions are identified, documented, and completed in a timely manner.
- Conduct facility walkthroughs and inspections, including production and warehouse areas, to monitor hazards, equipment conditions, temperature, noise levels, and employee work practices (areas may be wet or noisy at times).
- Perform data entry and recordkeeping to maintain accurate compliance and safety documentation.
- Coordinate with internal departments to ensure alignment with EHS policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Working knowledge of Cal/OSHA and Federal OSHA regulations, safety programs, and basic environmental regulations (EPA).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, employees, customers, and vendors.
- Strong English verbal and written communication skills.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Travel
- Valid California Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
- Automobile insurance meeting company requirements.

EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety & Health or a related field (preferred).
- Minimum of 1 year of hands-on experience in Environmental Health & Safety or a related role.
