Duties
- Interpret mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to determine machining requirements.
- Set up and operate CNC machinery including lathes, mills, grinders, and other machining tools with precision.
- Program CNC machines using G-code and M-code languages, including Fanuc control systems, to produce complex parts efficiently.
- Conduct machine setup procedures, including tooling selection, calibration, and measurement using calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and other precision measuring instruments.
- Perform quality inspections on machined parts utilizing measurement tools such as coordinate measuring machines (CMM), dial indicators, and height gauges to ensure adherence to specifications.
- Troubleshoot machining issues by adjusting machine parameters or tooling to optimize performance and quality.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace while adhering to safety standards; operate power tools and manual machining equipment as needed.
- Support lean manufacturing initiatives by identifying process improvements and reducing waste in machining operations.
- Assist in machine maintenance tasks including routine inspections and minor repairs to ensure continuous operation.
- Collaborate with engineering teams for tooling design modifications using CAD software like SolidWorks, Gibbs Cam or general CAD programs.
Skills
- Proficiency in CNC programming languages such as G-code and M-code; experience with Fanuc controls is preferred.
- Strong understanding of blueprint reading and mechanical blueprint interpretation for precise machining.
- Expertise in operating a variety of machining tools including lathes, mills, grinders, hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment.
- Knowledge of electrical discharge machining (EDM) processes for complex component fabrication.
- Skilled in using precision measurement instruments such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators, micrometers, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM).
- Mechanical knowledge with the ability to interpret mechanical drawings and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
- Experience with CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) programming for efficient toolpath generation.
- Familiarity with CAD software like SolidWorks or similar programs for part design review.
- Ability to perform manual machining tasks on lathe machines or milling equipment when necessary.
- Basic math skills for calculations related to measurements and tolerances in manufacturing processes.
- Understanding of lean manufacturing principles to improve efficiency and reduce waste in production workflows.
- Valid forklift certification is a plus for material handling within the shop environment.
