Job Summary
We are looking for a full-time mid-shift (4:00pm - 12:30am) Accessioner. The Accessioner will follow the guidelines set by CLIA, and CA Business and Professional Code of Regulations (BPC: 1212 and 1269) unlicensed laboratory personnel.
The activities which may be performed are:
- Biological specimen collection, including patient preparation, labeling, handling preservation or fixation, processing or preparation, and transportation and storage of specimens.
- Assisting licensed physician or personnel licensed under this chapter, other than trainees, in a licensed clinical laboratory.
- Assisting in preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, preparation and storage of reagents and culture media.
- Assisting in the performance of quality control procedures.
Essential Job Functions
- Accessions and processes samples (pre-analytical), and prepares them for the analytical process, scanning requisitions into the LIS. Daily verification sheets, pre-analytical QC of the process as necessary.
- Assists with Preventative Maintenance procedures, Quality Control performance, troubleshooting and in the preparation & storage of reagents.
- Gathers Calibration and QC data for the CLS to approve prior to release of any patient results.
- Centrifuges specimens as needed.
- Records temperatures and humidity readings.
- Maintains records and reports all problems to the supervisor as required (Requisition Quality Control, Preventative Maintenance, Temperature Logs, PM records, etc.…).
- Prepares, orders, and maintains reagents and supplies as required. Assures that reagents are not used past their expiration date. Documents dating directly on reagents as required by CLIA.
- Processes and takes care of problem specimens, such as, integrity issues, billing issues and/or documentation issues.
- Assist QA Manager with QA activities, such as gathering monthly QC reports and assuring proficiency testing binder is compiled properly.
- Decontaminates the bench tops and keeps the laboratory in a clean and orderly condition.
- Assists the CLS in the testing process, according to the needs of the laboratory and the BPC section 1269 regulations.
- Assists with LIS verification procedures.
- Orders and keeps track of reagents.
- Performs other duties as assigned, assisting the CLS as required and defined by section 1269 of the California Business and Profession’s Code (BPC).
Safety and Compliance Responsibilities
- Complies with applicable legal requirements, standards, and procedures including, but not limited to, those within the Compliance Process, Code of Conduct, State and CLIA.
- Participates in required orientation, Compliance, Safety, and HIPAA training programs.
- Reports concerns and suspected incidences of non-compliance to our laboratory management.
- Cooperates with monitoring and audit functions and investigations.
- Participates, as requested, in process improvement responsibilities.
Required Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED, as determined under CLIA.
- At least 1-2 years laboratory experience

Pay: $18.00 - $23.00 per hour
