Library Aide
JOB SUMMARY
Reports to: Principal

Summary: Works with the Media Specialist and building principal to create and oversee the day to day operation of the library.
RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Check out library materials.

Work closely with sources such as the county library and area educational agency to expand the selection of library materials.

Prepare library for classroom activities under supervision of the certified teacher.

Assist the teacher in organizing and collecting materials for students.

Assist the teacher in helping a student with assigned learning activities using library supplies.

Keep the library and work area neat and organized.

Work with individuals or small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher.

Assist individual children in need of special attention with the accelerated reader program of special research projects.

Promote the accelerated reader programs with incentives throughout the year.

Promote an annual Book Fair and use the profit for the purchase of new materials for the library.

Perform clerical duties and reports for the accelerated reader.

Train elementary library helpers.

Take students on field trips.

Assist the teacher in creating special strategies for reinforcing materials or skills based on student needs and abilities using library materials.

Serve as the chief source of information, help any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the teacher, and help the computer lab sub if necessary.

Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work, set up by the teacher.

Inform the teacher of any problem a student is having with accelerated reader.

Supervise students in the absence of the teacher during free reading in the library pit.

Supervise playground when assigned.

Demonstrate organization and professionalism in fulfilling the responsibilities of the job.

Greet all students, faculty, staff, parents, and the community.

Cooperate with and work in a courteous manner with co-workers and other personnel.

Demonstrate a positive attitude toward school, students, and job and communicate the same to the community.

Accept constructive criticism and suggestions and seek to improve each performance responsibility.

Maintain confidentiality in the school operation.

Adhere to applicable state and federal laws, rules and regulations, board policies, and administrative rules.
SPECIFICATIONS AND/OR QUALIFICATIONS
Should have a background in working with students and in a library setting.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
May need to be able to squat and lift over 10 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position will be in the library, in a climate controlled environment.
