Position Summary:
The Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic is responsible for performing preventative maintenance on diesel-powered trucks and equipment, with a primary focus on lubrication services, tire inspection, repair, and replacement. This role supports fleet reliability and safety by ensuring all equipment is maintained to company and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine preventative maintenance services on heavy-duty diesel vehicles, including oil changes, fluid checks, and filter replacements
- Inspect, repair, and replace tires on trucks, trailers, and equipment
- Conduct thorough vehicle inspections to identify wear, damage, or potential failures
- Check and maintain fluid levels (engine oil, coolant, transmission, differential, etc.)
- Lubricate chassis components and other moving parts according to maintenance schedules
- Document all maintenance work performed in accordance with company procedures
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and equipment are properly handled
- Follow all safety policies and procedures, including proper use of PPE
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding equipment status and repair needs
- Assist senior technicians with additional maintenance tasks as needed
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous experience in diesel maintenance, lube technician work, or tire service is required.
- Basic mechanical knowledge of heavy-duty diesel vehicles
- Ability to operate tire service equipment and basic shop tools
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
- Ability to work independently
Preferred Skills
- Experience with fleet maintenance programs
- Familiarity with DOT inspection standards
- Basic diagnostic skills
Work Environment and Physical Job Requirements
- Lift heavy tires and equipment (50+ lbs)
- Stand for long periods
- Ability to kneel, bend, and reach frequently
- Shop and outdoor work in varying weather conditions
- Exposure to noise, chemicals, and heavy machinery
Schedule: Day shift and weekends as needed
