Responsibilities
- Assist with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, mobility support, and meal assistance to promote independence and dignity.
- Monitor vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration; document findings accurately using electronic health records (EHR) or medical documentation systems like Epic or Cerner.
- Administer medications following prescribed protocols while adhering to HIPAA regulations and state healthcare guidelines.
- Support patients with specialized needs such as tube feeding, catheter care, and managing memory care or dementia-related behaviors.
- Maintain thorough medical records, update charts regularly, and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations including HIPAA and state Board of Nursing standards.
- Perform basic life support (BLS), CPR, first aid, and emergency response procedures confidently when required.
- Engage in manual handling techniques safely during heavy lifting or transferring patients to prevent injury.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to deliver holistic patient care tailored to individual needs across various healthcare settings.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, hospitals, or home care environments is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, anatomy, and geriatric patient care practices.
- Certification in CPR/BLS and first aid is required; additional certifications such as Alzheimer's or dementia care are advantageous.
- Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR/EHR) systems like Epic or Cerner is desirable.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and handle manual tasks with proper technique.
- Working knowledge of HIPAA regulations and state healthcare laws to ensure patient privacy and compliance.
- Strong communication skills coupled with a compassionate attitude towards patients with disabilities or complex health conditions.
- Valid certification from the State Board of Nursing or relevant licensing where applicable; ongoing professional development is encouraged.
