Align Technology is looking for a Senior UX Designer- Contractor to join our Platform Experience team and lead design across a group of related work in one of our product areas, including Invisalign, iTero, and exocad platforms. In this role, you'll partner with Product Management to understand priorities, surface trade-offs, and deliver design work on a consistent cadence, so risks and progress stay visible to the team and stakeholders throughout the cycle.
We're specifically looking for someone who has worked at an AI-forward company and has firsthand experience leading how AI shaped design decisions, workflows, and customer outcomes. You will bring proven practices that push our team's standard forward for how AI tools accelerate design and how AI-driven features reach clinicians and patients.
-
Lead design hands-on across multiple platforms, taking complex workflows from concept through high-fidelity delivery with strong craft in layout, interaction, and content.
- Bring experience from an AI-leading environment to introduce new patterns, evaluation methods, and workflows that raise how the team uses AI in both their process and the products they ship.
- Partner with Product Management to understand priorities, surface trade-offs, and keep scope and risks visible as the work progresses.
- Build trusted relationships with clinical stakeholders, run practice interviews and summit sessions, and feed what you hear back into delivery.
- Contribute to the ongoing evolution of the Align Design System (ADS) with standards, patterns, and usage rules grounded in real product needs.
-
6-10 years of product design experience with a strong portfolio showing end-to-end ownership of complex workflows, not just individual screens.
- Demonstrated experience at a company where AI was a core part of the product or design process, with clear examples of how you led AI-informed design decisions that impacted customer outcomes.
- Proficiency in Figma for design, prototyping, and design system contribution. Hands-on experience with AI design tools and workflows.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present to senior stakeholders, explain trade-offs clearly, and align cross-functional partners.
- Ability to work onsite in San Jose with a distributed global team across time zones.
Complementary Skills
- Experience with healthcare, clinical, or dental workflows and understanding of regulatory constraints.
- Track record of introducing AI-accelerated design practices to a team, including tooling, prompt patterns, or evaluation rubrics.
- Experience contributing to or governing a design system at scale.
- Familiarity with running lightweight research (usability testing, VOC synthesis, usage data analysis) to inform design direction.
