Overview
Telemetry RNs (Tele RNs) consult with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans. The Tele RN utilizes machines that measure a patient’s heart rate, blood pressure, breathing rate, as well as blood oxygen levels and electrocardiogram information. Tele RN job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Tele RNs prepare, administer, and record prescribed medications and report an adverse reaction to medications in accordance with policies
- Prepare equipment and assist physician during examination and treatment of patient
- Identify irregular telemetry readings and notify the appropriate medical team member
- Monitor specialized equipment used on patients and interpret electronic displays
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in the specialty and 2 years’ experience as a RN
- 3 or more years of experience is preferred.
- At least one completed previous travel assignment.
- Active RN license in the state or a valid compact license.
- Experience in Level I Trauma hospitals.
- Telemetry experience.
- Interpretation of dysrhythmias.
- Management of dysrhythmias.
- Ability to start and maintain IVs.
- Certification in BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS.
- Experience with general medsurg patient care.
- Recent experience in a Level I Trauma Center and hospital environment.
- Experience in large hospital settings, especially those with interdisciplinary support staff.
- Cerner EMR system experience.
- Flu vaccination (mandatory; no exemptions).
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
- Experience with large patient census units (approximate daily census of 46).
- Experience with interdisciplinary patient care teams.
- Knowledge of patient diagnoses in general medsurg.
- Familiarity with hospital special procedures.
