Job Description:
Position Salary Range: $58,000 - $68,000 per year; DOE
The SciStarter Volunteer Network Program Coordinator will take primary responsibility to develop and sustain a network of volunteers who are trained to interface with local libraries and other local organizations to promote awareness and use of citizen science in their communities. The network currently involves two tier levels: “Champions” who generally promote and advocate for citizen science in their communities, and fully certified “Ambassadors” who engage in additional training, background checks, and have an online presence in the SciStarter Ambassador Directory as a resource for librarians and others.
Essential Duties:
Host regular volunteer webinars to recruit, engage, and sustain volunteer Ambassadors and Champions, working with other team members, project leaders, scientists, volunteers, and community groups to ensure content is engaging and informative.
Coordinate recruitment of new Ambassadors working with team members to promote the program through SciStarter, Idealist.org, and other partner organizations and channels.
Review and shepherd candidates through the volunteer onboarding system.
Conduct regularly scheduled Ambassador Orientation events.
Conduct background checks on Ambassador-level candidates to assess potential risks and to ensure a safe environment for all program stakeholders.
Revise the Ambassador handbook as needed to keep content updated and relevant.
Coordinate purchasing and distribution of volunteer materials (promotional literature, volunteer shirts and badges, give-away stickers, buttons, etc.) to support volunteer events.
Coordinate and plan events associated with corporate volunteer programs, encouraging employee volunteerism in citizen science.
Support team at in-person events (library conferences, recruitment events, etc.) as needed, including local events and events requiring in-state and out-of-state travel.
Support and troubleshoot volunteer inquiries and issues; support library inquiries as they pertain to the volunteer network.
Coordinate with front-end and back-end development teams to support improvements to SciStarter’s Ambassador web pages.
Maintain regular communications with volunteers through newsletters, social media, and other channels; respond to inquiries as needed.
Help coordinate SciStarter’s day-to-day operations across programs and teams.
Supervise student workers as needed.
Support other team members activities and events leading up to and during Citizen Science Month, including partner engagement and program execution.
Support development of new citizen science resources (digital and print).
Support leadership in executing organizational priorities and improving internal processes.
Expected to be responsive to customers; engaged in work production; and resourceful, flexible, and respectful of others.
Attend weekly SciStarter team calls.
Desired Qualifications:
Bachelor's or equivalent.
Experience working with volunteer programs.
Excellent communication skills; Experience in Canva, WordPress, Google Docs, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Experience with Asana is a plus.
Working Environment:
Climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of being in a stationary position.
Regular use of a computer and other office productivity equipment, such as a calculator, copy machine and printer.
Ability to clearly communicate and exchange accurate information to perform essential duties.
