Substitute Teachers Needed
We are an outdoor nature school that is outdoors rain or shine all year round. There are four different age groups: Tadpoles (18m-2.9y), Pollywogs (3-4y), Froglets (5-6y), and Poison Dart Frogs (7+). We have an East County Group and a West County group. We are permitted by the city at different public parks each day. We have 11 teachers on staff and would like to build a roster of substitute teachers for when someone is sick or has a planned vacation.
Time: 8-3:15 or 9-5pm or 8:30-4:30pm or 9-1pm or 8-12:30pm
Days: M-F
Hours Weekly: Not Guaranteed, Last minute work offered, this is ONLY a good fit if you have a secondary job with flexible hours.
Duties include managing behaviors of children, leading circle time, supporting with our 1-2hr hikes, leading and supporting with art projects, reading books, cleaning our supplies, and supporting kids during academic time or planned activities.
You must be ok with long periods of standing, hiking, carrying a backpack with extra water and first aid kit for the hike, and being outside rain or shine. If it rains all day, you will be in the rain all day. Company provides rain gear.
Location: We move around to different parks each day in Clairemont, La Jolla, PB, Mission Valley, OB, Bay-ho, Tierrasanta, and South Park. East County is in El Cajon, Lemon Grove, and Lakeside
Requirements: (Do not apply if you don’t meet the requirement)
Flexible schedule for being on call
Experience working with children in a group setting 1-2 years who are between the ages of 3-8 years Or 18m-2years
At least 12 Early Childhood Education credits required
Experience as a preschool & kindergarten teacher or Summer Camp Counselor
Pass a background check
CPR/First Aid trained or willing to become trained
Love of nature, being outdoors, flexible personality, and uses positive discipline
Do NOT apply if you are looking for steady weekly hours. This job is suited for someone who is already a substitute teacher or has other gig type work available throughout the week.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 8 – 35 per week

It does not work well for someone who wants full time work. Other compatible fields are photography, gig work, or a weekend only job. - Are you available to work between the hours of 7:30-5pm?
- Are you able to sprint after a child, pickup a child and carry them, swim in the bay and retrieve a child, lift and carry items that are 50lbs, be outside in the sun for the entire day, hike more than 5 miles?
- Are you able to be strict, but kind to the kids? Safety is our number one priority. If you have no experience with classroom management for ages 3-10, please don't apply. Our largest age group is the 3-4 age group. However, compassion and kindness is still a must.
