Overview
We are seeking a responsible, safety-focused, and caring individual to join our childcare team as a Van Driver. In this role, you will be responsible for safely transporting children to and from our facility, as well as to scheduled activities or field trips, following all traffic laws and safety regulations. You will maintain a clean, well-functioning vehicle, conduct pre- and post-trip inspections, and ensure that all children are securely seated and supervised during transit.
Beyond driving, you will serve as a friendly and reassuring presence for children, building positive relationships with them and their families. Clear communication with parents and staff, punctuality, and a commitment to child safety are essential. This position plays a vital role in creating a safe, reliable, and welcoming environment for the children in our care.
Duties
- Safely drive children to and from the childcare facility, following strict schedules and designated routes.
- Conduct pre‑trip vehicle safety inspections (tires, brakes, lights, wipers, fuel, safety equipment) and report any malfunctions or needed repairs.
- Ensure all children are properly secured in seatbelts or car seats, and no child rides in the load area or floor of the van.
- Load and unload children from a curbside or safe, off‑street area out of traffic flow.
- Keep a list of children being transported and document attendance as they board and depart.
- Maintain a calm, safe, and comfortable ride by adjusting temperature, minimizing noise, and enforcing safety rules.
Experience
- Valid driver’s license.
- Prior experience is recommended but not required , especially for entry-level or part-time roles.
- On-the-job training we will provide instructions on routes, safety procedures, and child behavior management.
- Experience in public or private transportation (e.g., school bus, taxi, delivery) can be an advantage but is not mandatory.
- Clean driving record with no major traffic violations or accidents in the last 3 years.
- Background check — is required to protect children.
- CPR/first aid certification — Required to handle emergencies while transporting children. We can get you certified.
- Familiarity with child safety seats and proper installation.
- Knowledge of local transportation regulations and child passenger safety laws. (You can get training one you come onboard)
