About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Environmental Health & Safety Manager to join our Joplin, Missouri manufacturing facility.
This is a hands-on role with responsibility for leading the facility’s environmental, health and safety programs and ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state and local requirements. The EHS Manager will work closely with employees, supervisors and plant leadership to identify risks, strengthen safety practices and promote a positive safety culture throughout the facility.
We’re looking for someone who is proactive, approachable and comfortable working directly with a manufacturing team — someone who takes ownership, follows through and looks for practical ways to make the workplace safer and more effective.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support the facility’s environmental, health and safety programs and ensure compliance with applicable OSHA, EPA, Missouri and local requirements.
- Partner with plant leadership, supervisors and employees to promote a strong, proactive safety culture.
- Maintain and administer site safety programs, policies and safe work practices.
- Complete required federal and state environmental reporting, including SARA Tier II, TRI, chemical inventory and other applicable submissions.
- Manage Missouri air regulations, permitting, compliance and periodic reporting requirements.
- Coordinate regulatory inspections and ensure findings are addressed promptly and effectively.
- Research and prepare permit applications and other regulatory documentation as required.
- Conduct Job Hazard Analyses and establish appropriate PPE requirements by task.
- Conduct routine safety observations, audits and inspections and drive corrective actions through completion.
- Ensure engineered controls are functioning properly and maintained in accordance with applicable requirements.
- Lead investigations of injuries, illnesses, environmental incidents, property damage and near misses, including root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste programs and maintain required environmental records.
- Develop, coordinate and deliver EHS training for employees, supervisors and contractors.
- Maintain employee training records and required compliance documentation.
- Support site emergency preparedness and response plans, including first-responder planning.
- Lead and mentor the site Safety Team.
- Collaborate with other NMG locations to share best practices and strengthen EHS programs across the organization.
- Identify opportunities to reduce workplace injuries, environmental impact and associated costs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health & Safety or a related field.
- 3–5 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA and applicable Missouri environmental and safety regulations.
- Experience with environmental compliance, permitting and regulatory reporting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with employees and leaders at all levels.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and follow through on commitments.
- A hands-on, practical approach to identifying hazards, solving problems and improving safety.
