Position Overview
The Offsite Placement Specialist supports KCHA’s offsite adoption, transport, and transfer programs by coordinating animal placement, transport, and communication with partner organizations. This role ensures efficient movement of animals between the shelter, offsite adoption locations, rescue partners, and KCHA’s New Jersey adoption center.
The position includes local transport, regional transfers, and occasional overnight travel.
Position Specific Accountabilities
Offsite Adoption Program oversight
· Coordinate placement and rotation of animals at offsite adoption locations based on space, medical status, and adoption potential.
· Track animal movement between the shelter and partner locations.
· Support offsite adoption programs and assist with adoption events and outreach as needed.
· Communicate with internal teams and external partners regarding placement needs and animal availability.
Transport & Travel Operations (Local and Long-Distance)
- Transport animals between KCHA, offsite locations, rescue partners, and other approved destinations.
- Prepare animals for transport, ensuring required medical records, vaccinations, and supplies are complete.
- Participate in scheduled and urgent transport routes.
- Perform occasional overnight travel for transport to KCHA’s New Jersey adoption center and return trips.
- Maintain safe handling practices and ensure transport vehicles and equipment are clean and prepared.
Rescue & Transfer Coordination
- Coordinate with rescue organizations to identify and transfer eligible animals.
- Prepare and distribute transport/transfer lists in collaboration with shelter staff.
- Ensure all required documentation and medical requirements are completed prior to transport.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate records in shelter management systems.
- Track placements, transfers, and transport activity.
- Support reporting and data collection for offsite programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Expectations
· This position requires flexibility, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and occasional overnight travel depending on transport schedules and operational needs.
Available and willing to work beyond the end of scheduled shift or on unscheduled days as required for efficient organizational operation and growth. Within the scope of their qualifications and experience, performs other duties as assigned.
