Duties
- Assist dentists chairside during a variety of dental procedures including restorations, extractions, root canals, and prosthetic placements using aseptic techniques.
- Prepare treatment rooms with necessary instruments, materials, and supplies while maintaining strict infection control protocols aligned with HIPAA regulations.
- Take and develop dental X-rays and medical imaging, including 3D scans, ensuring proper positioning and safety standards are met.
- Manage patient records electronically using EMR systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft, ensuring accuracy in medical documentation and medical coding.
- Provide patient education on oral hygiene practices, post-treatment care, and treatment plans to enhance understanding and compliance.
- Support administrative tasks including answering the dental receptionist phone line, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance coverage, and updating medical records.
- Perform vital signs assessments for pediatric and adult patients to monitor health status prior to procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment by adhering to infection control standards and aseptic techniques.
- Collaborate with team members in four-handed dentistry practices to optimize workflow efficiency during procedures.
- Assist with medical documentation related to dental procedures for compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory standards.
Qualifications
- Valid state licensure as a Registered Dental Assistant with current certification in X-ray radiation safety.
- Proven experience working in a dental clinic environment with knowledge of general dentistry procedures and terminology.
- Proficiency in EMR systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft; familiarity with Epic or similar medical records software is a plus.
- Strong understanding of infection control protocols, aseptic techniques, anatomy knowledge, and dental assisting best practices.
- Ability to perform chairside assisting efficiently while maintaining excellent patient rapport.
- Knowledge of pediatric dentistry principles and experience working with pediatric patients is preferred.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, medical coding, and handling medical documentation accurately.
- Excellent communication skills to coordinate effectively with dentists, hygienists, patients, and administrative staff.
