The City of Clinton is seeking a motivated, dependable, and safety-conscious individual to join our Water & Sewer Division as a Water & Sewer Crew Leader / Heavy Equipment Operator I. This position performs skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of potable water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer systems while operating a variety of heavy equipment and specialized vehicles.
The selected candidate will assist with daily operations, lead work crews as assigned, respond to emergency calls, and help maintain the City's water and sewer infrastructure while providing outstanding service to our residents.
Essential Duties
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Operate heavy equipment, including backhoes, tampers, bush hogs, and other specialized equipment.
- Install, maintain, and repair water distribution and sewer collection systems.
- Perform routine equipment inspections and preventative maintenance.
- Ensure compliance with safety policies and OSHA standards.
- Assist in training employees and leading work crews when assigned.
- Respond to after-hours emergencies and participate in an on-call rotation.
- Maintain accurate records and reports.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of six (6) months of experience in equipment operation, construction, utility maintenance, or related work.
- Valid South Carolina Driver's License.
- Ability to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of employment.
- Ability to obtain a Class C Water Distribution Operator License and a Class C Wastewater Collection Operator License within two (2) years of employment.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work in various weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in municipal water and sewer operations.
- Experience operating heavy equipment.
- Current South Carolina Class B CDL.
- Current Water Distribution and/or Wastewater Collection certifications.
