Summary of Role:
The Director of Finance oversees and supervises all financial operations of the organization; provides leadership in financial decision-making and policy and procedure development; and uses financial expertise and analyses data to make recommendations to assist organization to meet its goals. This position is responsible to compile all regular financial reports for timely submission, budgets, and analyses as well as facilitating the independent financial statement audits and non-profit tax returns required. The Director of Finance is a key participant in management operations of the organization to assure that appropriate financial considerations are addressed.
- E Assure that appropriate policies and procedures are in place for all financial and cash handling situations.
- E Appropriate and effective cash management.
- E Produce accurate and timely monthly financial statements.
- E Supervise Billing Department, that relate directly to accounts receivables and monthly reports, Accounts Payable, Purchasing, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll functions.
- E Assist in developing financial analyses as needed.
- E Oversee and assure the grants and contracts are billed appropriately, and the appropriate collections are made on the bills.
- E Make adjustments and journal entries in financial MIS, or assure that they are done. Assure appropriate procedures are in place to provide financial security.
- E Take a lead role in development of annual budgets, and in forecasting changes in projected revenues / expenses over the course of the fiscal year.
- E Participate in and take a leadership role in financial analysis of purchase, mortgages, or rental agreements on buildings, land, capital equipment and property, or any other major expenditures.
- E Assure that bank statements are reconciled in a timely and accurate fashion.
- E Participate in Senior Management Team and other assigned internal and external committees as appropriate.
- E Represent UBCSS to local banks, set up and oversee all banking.
- E Ensure that auditor is selected, in coordination with Board of Directors; ensure that proper information is provided to auditor. Oversee organization's response to any items in Management Letter.
- E Oversight of credit card operations.
- E Protects agency property and adheres to posted speed at all times when driving UBCSS’ vehicles.
All other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required. Advanced degree in Accounting preferred.
Experience: Five years Director of Finance or similar experience preferred. Experience working in a non-profit organization in health care is required. Experience with behavioral health regulations in the State of Maryland preferred.
Special Training/Skills: Strong accounting skills required. Good interpersonal skills with emphasis on emotional maturity, written and oral communication skills. Excellent organization, technology and management skills required.
Physical Requirements: Physical requirements performed routinely are walking, standing, and/or sitting for up to an hour at a time during the workday. Often requires repetitive use of wrists, hands, and legs, particularly when operating equipment. May require lifting (up to 25 pounds) and/or bending.
Other: Interpersonal skills required to work as member of an interdisciplinary team. Demonstrates experience and skills in making presentations, as well as effective verbal and written communication skills.
Licensure/ Certification: CPA certification required. Valid driver’s license is required. Certifications must be maintained and updates/changes in course requirements must be adopted positively.
