The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) provides a safe and efficient transportation system for the traveling public while promoting economic development and preserving New Mexico's environment. The Financial Control Division is responsible for ascertaining the legality and authorization of proposed expenditures, maintaining financial records, and ensuring the availability of adequate budgetary resources prior to the commitment of NMDOT restricted funds.
As a valued new employee to NMDOT, you may be eligible to received three (3) days of administrative leave upon your start date. This is applicable to external hires not within the State of New Mexico Government.

This position exists to ensure the organization's financial activities comply with all applicable state and federal laws, regulations, and fiduciary standards. The position provides supervision of financial control functions, including the audit, research, analysis, computation, preparation, recording, and reconciliation of financial transactions. Effective leadership at this level is essential to maintaining strong internal controls, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and safeguarding public funds.
How does it get done?
The primary responsibilities of this position will include:
- Supervision and monitoring of the daily ongoing financial activities of the Financial Control Unit.
- Manage the processing of deposits, reconciliation of funds and vendor establishment.
- Ensuring compliance with policies and regulations.
- Maintaining strong internal controls.
- Mitigating financial risk, and support accurate and timely financial reporting.

Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's Degree in accounting, economics, finance, or business administration and five (5) years of experience in accounting, finance, economics, and/or statistical analysis. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling nine (9) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in an office setting with exposure to visual/video display terminal and extensive personal computer and telephone usage with extended periods of sitting. Working conditions also include working with faxes, copiers, and printers. Must be able to lift 25 Ibs. Some travel may be required.
