YWCA Central Alabama Downtown Birmingham, Alabama
Manage the cases of clients in confidential domestic violence shelter and short-term housing to ensure each individual victim/survivor and family receives personalized, professional services as needed to address their situation and which empowers and prepares them to succeed independently. Coordinate with other departments and services within YWCA to ensure the client is made familiar with all services offered by YWCA, including and not limited to domestic violence services. Coordinate with resources in the community as needed as well.

Complete thorough assessments of each situation, working closely with the client to determine their needs.

Provide individualized case management services and advocacy to identify and obtain affordable, permanent housing. Develop housing stabilization plan to assist clients with retaining permanent housing.

Coordinate referrals to outside agencies as needed including but not limited to medical (including mental health), food stamps or other supports, employment, financial counseling, legal assistance as needed.

Determine client’s eligibility for federal housing financial assistance; complete appropriate referrals to support permanent housing goals. Maintain detailed client files and records on timely basis to ensure consistent and compliance services and record keeping.

Adhere to agency procedures, requirements of funding sources (grants) and Director’s direction to assure highest level of customer service and compassionate care.

Assist with all audits, funding, and educational visits to YWCA, representing the organization and its mission.

Interact with organizations in the community on a regular basis to maintain strong communication regarding available resources for clients.

Actively participate in staff meetings and work collaboratively with other members of the department and organization.

May be asked to perform physical inspection of housing units and common areas.

Provide on-call emergency assistance as needed by clients or shelter.

Positively represent YWCA and its values, mission, and goals.

Compassionate, patient person with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Strong organizational skills even in a fast passed, crisis-based work environment.

Ability to work with socially and culturally diverse populations using the English language; proficiency in other languages, such as Spanish, greatly appreciated.

Ability to work independently and self-initiate. Also, able to work well within a team.

Knowledge of community based social services, resources, and referrals appreciated.

Experience and proficiency with Office Suite, including Word in particular.
- Ability to learn case management software or other software used within the organization.

Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field. Master’s degree in social work preferred; may be substituted for a year of experience.

Minimum of two years’ previous experience working with women and families; domestic violence experience preferred.

Minimum of one-year previous case management experience in social services setting.

Valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance; may be asked to transport clients.

Standard office environment requiring use of a computer, sitting for periods of time. Also requires ability to move within the organization and the community to meet with clients, complete inspections and other work requirements.

Lifting up to 30 lbs. may be required from time to time.
