About the Role
As a Behavioral Health Coding Specialist, you will be you will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate and compliant coding for medical records for STAR's clients. Must have strong coding skills with experience in Mental health, ABA, substance abuse treatment, etc. We will train on client specifics however you are expected to have a thorough understanding of general coding principles and procedures including coding guidelines. Will be required to complete coding assessment to be considered for this position. This is a employment position that is fully remote. Must be able to commit to part-time (minimum of 20 hrs. every week). Must be US-based.
Responsibilities include:
- Reviews medical records to identify Diagnoses, E/M, CPT, HCPCS and modifiers relative to the patient’s encounter for behavioral health
- Assign codes accordingly based on services documented
- Charge entry & edit resolution required
- Validate appropriate information from the medical record is abstracted based on the coding guidelines, client specific guidelines & payor guidelines
- Ensure all coding complies with the ethical coding standards/guidelines and regulatory requirements
- Make recommendations for ambiguous or conflicting documentation in the medical record and query as required by client policies
- Maintains the strictest confidentiality; adheres to all Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act guidelines/regulations
Experience/Qualifications:
- Must have one of the following AHIMA/AAPC certifications: CPC or CCS
- Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and coding guidelines for ICD-10-CM, CPT including HCPCS Level II codes, Modifiers, etc.
- At least 3 years of recent coding experience in:
- Outpatient Clinic and Facility Inpatient behavioral health
- Psychotherapy Services
- ABA Services
- Autism Services
- Substance abuse treatment
- Medication Administration coding
- CPT Codes
- HCPCS Level II Codes
- Modifier usage
- NCCI Edits
- Knowledge of current and developing issues, trends in medical coding procedures requirements, and be able to research as needed
- Proficient computer skills using MS-Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet Explorer, electronic medical records (EMR) systems including Epic, Cerner, etc. along with 3M computer assisted coding program.
- Meet required client productivity standards and maintain minimum of 97% accuracy

Pay: $26.00 - $29.00 per hour
