REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Director of Operations or Designee
GENERAL PURPOSE:
Under the direction of the Director of Operations, the Multi Trades Technician is capable of assisting and performing maintenance and grounds functions with abilities in electrical, hvac, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, lawn cutting, painting, roof repair/renovation, glazing, other non-mechanical electrical, field lining, and snow removal; assist/perform grounds duties; may be required to perform some custodial duties as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Assumes the responsibility of work assignments under the supervision of the Operations Director, through the Multi Trades Lead or designee;
● Move equipment and materials within and between school buildings;
● May be required to perform some custodial duties as needed;
● Repair Sloan valves, faucets, sinks, drinking fountains, other plumbing fixtures and opening of clogged drains;
● Repair light switches, lights, outlets, ballasts, motors, wiring replacement. Complete other minor electrical repairs as required;
● Check, maintain, and repair roof conditions;
● Replace broken glass;
● Repair and replace domestic hot water pumps and heating related systems;
● Drywall and repair wall systems. Perform light masonry, installation of floor tiles, cove base, and stair treads;
● Install bulletin boards and dry erase boards;
● Responsible for all facility maintenance as directed by the Director of Operations;
● Assist in maintaining school buildings and grounds in top condition;
● Assist in promoting the safety, health, and comfort of students and employees in school buildings and grounds;
● Maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in all maintenance and repair projects;
● Work overtime when emergencies arise in order to prevent disruption of the schools;
● Ensure that all activities conform to district guidelines;
● Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community;
● React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned;
● Appropriately operate all equipment and machinery as necessary;
● Assists with the removal of snow and ice on all district properties;
● Assists with operating equipment such as snow plow, front end loader, dump truck, tractors, lawn mowers, chain saw, and field lining equipment;
● Assists with the removal of trash/debris for all district buildings and grounds;
● Assists with maintaining all athletic areas including debris, walks, trimming, edging, tree trimming, and mowing of all grass;
● Assists with maintaining sprinkler systems in district;
● Assist with the operation of fire alarm systems, reset and troubleshoot
● Have the ability to to troubleshoot commercial kitchen equipment and make necessary repairs
● Work with little or no supervision;
● Must participate in departmental training, education, and team building programs;
● Install bulletin boards and dry erase boards;
● Assists with planting and watering of trees and grass;
● Participates in district and school initiatives, adheres to building and district school improvement plans;
● Keep in confidence student records and information as required under FERPA;
● Adheres to district and school policies, rules and procedures;
● Conducts behavior to demonstrate collegiality and professionalism;
● Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of the position;
● Other duties as assigned as agreed upon by Administration.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
● None
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
● High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
● Certifications in HVAC, Plumbing, BMS or Electrical preferred.
● Must have basic working knowledge of air handling equipment.
● Must have strong hands-on, mechanical ability.
● Must be able to read and understand blueprints, schematics, and directions.
● Must be able to produce accurate reports on completed work.
● Must hold a valid Michigan Driver License.
● Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
● Applicants must satisfactorily pass a criminal background check as defined by the State of Michigan.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
● Knowledge of records administration and maintenance techniques and procedures;
● Experience/Training in HVAC, Building Management Systems (Niagara N4) Preferred
● Experience in Water Quality monitoring/testing (EGLE Water Operators License) Preferred
● Knowledge of productivity applications such as Microsoft Office (word processing, Google, email, etc. is required;
● Knowledge of safety standards, be alert and exercise good judgment in an emergency;
● Skills to effectively communicate with a variety of stakeholders, both orally and in writing;
● Skills necessary to integrate and utilize district technology on a daily basis to maintain proficiency, as required skill sets change with technology and or the needs of the district;
● Skills in the use of computer technology;
● Ability to set and meet goals evaluated through ongoing and annual Administrator feedback and achievement of objectives and agreed upon professional/personal goals;
● Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external contacts;
● Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions;
● Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals;
● Should have an understanding of Plumbing, Electrical, Construction, HVAC codes and practices;

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee is often required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and/or climb ladders. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The ability to travel to other buildings and to training may be required. The position requires the individual to sometimes work irregular or extended work hours and meet multiple demands from several people.
ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTABILITY:
The noise level in the work environment is quiet to loud depending upon the activity in the particular part of the day. The employee is frequently required to interact with the public and other staff. The employee is exposed to infections at a greater risk than the average person. The employee is required to be outdoors for short to long periods of time, and therefore subject to varying weather conditions, for purposes of accomplishing the essential functions of this position.
