Position Summary
The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) will evaluate, diagnose, and treat residents with speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders. This role includes developing individualized treatment plans, educating families and staff, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to support optimal resident outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate residents for speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing impairments
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on resident needs
- Provide skilled therapy services aligned with medically necessary goals
- Implement augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) strategies when appropriate
- Educate residents, caregivers, and staff on treatment techniques and progress
- Collaborate with physicians and care teams to coordinate instrumental swallow studies (e.g., MBSS, FEES)
- Document services accurately and in a timely manner per regulatory and facility requirements
- Respond to family inquiries and provide ongoing communication regarding care
- Support and train restorative nursing staff as needed
- Ensure compliance with all legal, ethical, and professional standards
- Maintain resident dignity, confidentiality, and quality of care at all times
Qualifications
- Active Texas Speech-Language Pathologist license
- ASHA Certification (CCC-SLP)
- In good standing with all licensing boards and regulatory agencies
- Experience in long-term care, skilled nursing, or geriatric rehabilitation preferred
- Familiarity with Net Health documentation system a plus
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and clinical skills
