Job Summary
Filkins Vineyards is a family owned and operated estate vineyard and winery located in Coloma Michigan. Our first vines were established 28 years ago and today the estate is 99 acres with 34 acres of vines planted with 12 varietals, with a focus on regenerative viticulture and 100% estate driven wines from the Lake Michigan Shore AVA.
We are seeking self-motivated individuals with an interest in working alongside our Winemaker and team to gain invaluable experience crafting luxury wines of quality. This opportunity is ideal for any aspiring winemaker looking for practical hands-on experience as a member of a small estate winemaking team.
Responsibilities include:
Help to bring in grapes from the vineyard (possible vineyard work)
Cleaning and Sanitizing Equipment, Tanks, and Workspace
Crush Operations
Punch downs (by hand)
Yeast Preparations and other additions
Daily Brix checks and Fermentation Monitoring (using a DMA)
Drain and Press Operations
Barrel Preparation
Racking and Barrel Filling
Maintaining a safe, clean, and organized workspace always
All other duties as assigned by the winemaker
Qualifications and Requirements:
Must be 21+ for application to be considered
Previous winery and/or lab experience or education a plus, but we are happy to train anybody with a passion for wine, a positive attitude, and a strong work ethic
Capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds
Able to stand, bend, kneel, climb ladders, etc.
Able to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather and temperatures
Available to work extended hours and weekends as necessary
Attention to detail, curiosity, and positivity
Additional Information:
Two Seasonal Part-time positions that rotate days to ensure coverage every day of the week during peak season. Approximately 30 hours each week working every other day through the season.
Early September-Late November with possibility of longer depending on season
This position requires working in a repetitive, fast-paced, physically demanding environment, under conditions of physical and mental fatigue, while maintaining clarity, focus, and a positive attitude.
Applicants must be willing to stand for many hours and repeatedly carry heavy objects. We are looking for a team player who is hard-working, reliable, and self-motivated.
Pay: $17.00 per hour
