Sierra Community House is seeking a dependable and community-minded Temporary Food Supply Specialist to support our Hunger Relief Program. This hands-on position plays an important role in our food recovery, distribution, and warehouse operations and helps ensure that food and other resources are safely received, transported, stored, and distributed throughout the communities we serve.
The ideal candidate is reliable, comfortable performing physical work, able to work independently and as part of a team, and committed to providing respectful, welcoming, and nonjudgmental service to people from diverse backgrounds.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate Sierra Community House vehicles, including a refrigerated box truck, to pick up, transport, and deliver food, supplies, and donations.
- Receive, unload, sort, inspect, organize, and properly store food deliveries and donations.
- Monitor food quality, expiration dates, storage conditions, and temperatures in accordance with food safety procedures.
- Maintain accurate records related to food temperatures, donations, deliveries, and disposal.
- Maintain clean, safe, and organized warehouse, food storage, vehicle, and distribution areas.
- Safely use warehouse and food-handling equipment, including electric pallet jacks, carts, and hand trucks.
- Assist with the preparation, setup, operation, and breakdown of food distributions at Sierra Community House and community distribution sites.
- Work alongside volunteers and provide clear instructions and basic guidance to support safe and efficient food recovery and distribution activities.
- Provide respectful, welcoming, equitable, and nonjudgmental service to community members, volunteers, donors, partner organizations, and coworkers.
- Work outdoors and at multiple Sierra Community House locations in varying weather conditions.
- Follow organizational policies and procedures related to workplace safety, food safety, vehicle use, confidentiality, and program operations.
Qualifications
- Reliable transportation and an insurable driving record.
- Strong communication skills, punctuality, dependability, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and effectively with diverse communities.
- Cultural awareness and sensitivity.
- Fluent in English; Spanish is a plus.
- Comfortable performing manual labor and operating equipment such as pallet jacks, carts, and hand trucks.
- Prior nonprofit, food service, warehouse, or similar experience is preferred.
- Basic computer and technology skills for program records and communication.
- Ability to safely operate agency vehicles, including a refrigerated box truck.
- Ability to adapt to changing deliveries, donations, distributions, and daily operational needs.
Physical Requirements
This is a physically active position. Employees must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with reasonable accommodation available for qualified individuals with disabilities.
The position requires the ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods; bend, twist, kneel, stoop, push, pull, and carry objects; frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds; and frequently climb in and out of delivery trucks. The position also requires driving between work locations, including during heavy weather conditions.

Sierra Community House provides hunger relief and other critical services to individuals and families throughout the North Lake Tahoe and Truckee communities. Our Hunger Relief Program works to increase access to nutritious food through food recovery, warehouse operations, community partnerships, and food distribution programs.
We are looking for someone who is dependable, ready to work, comfortable in a physically active environment, and committed to treating every community member with dignity and respect.
This is a temporary, part-time position scheduled for approximately 24 hours per week from August 2026 through December 2026.
