My Sister’s Keeper (MSK) is a youth mentoring and advocacy program serving under-resourced young people. We use evidence-based practices and a supportive mentoring approach to empower youth in academic success, social-emotional growth, life skills, leadership development, and community engagement. The My Brother’s Keeper initiative complements MSK’s mission by supporting boys and young men as part of our broader youth empowerment efforts.
Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate and engaging Math / ELA / Life Skills Educator to support youth in academic achievement and personal development. This role focuses on strengthening students’ skills in math, reading, and writing while also teaching essential life skills such as communication, decision-making, and goal setting. The ideal candidate will create a supportive, interactive learning environment that encourages confidence, growth, and real-world application of skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide instruction in math and ELA (reading, writing, comprehension) in both group and one-on-one settings
- Facilitate life skills workshops focused on topics such as financial literacy, time management, communication, and goal setting
- Develop engaging lesson plans tailored to different learning levels and needs
- Support students with homework, tutoring, and academic enrichment activities
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and motivating learning environment
- Monitor student progress and provide feedback to program staff and families
- Collaborate with mentors and staff to align academic and personal development goals
- Encourage student participation, confidence, and leadership
Qualifications
Required:
- Degree or certification (or currently pursuing) in education, English, mathematics, or a related field
- Experience working with children or adolescents (tutoring, mentoring, teaching, youth programs, etc.)
- Strong communication and instructional skills
- Ability to engage and motivate diverse groups of students
- Patience, creativity, and a passion for youth development
- Also looking for males for our brother's keeper program to help support our young males with these specific skills in youth development
- Must be willing to do a Background Check
Preferred:
- Teaching or tutoring experience in math and/or ELA
- Experience facilitating life skills or enrichment workshops
- Familiarity with culturally responsive teaching practices
- Background/certification in youth development, mentoring, or community-based programs
- Experience in special education, behavioral support, or related fields

Pay: $16.00 - $50.00 per hour
Work Location: In person
