Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Substance Abuse Counselor to join our dynamic behavioral health team. Duties
- Conduct thorough intake assessments and diagnostic evaluations to determine clients’ needs and develop tailored treatment plans.
- Deliver individual and group counseling sessions utilizing modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, behavioral therapy, and applied behavior analysis.
- Facilitate child, family, and community counseling to support holistic recovery efforts.
- Implement crisis intervention strategies to manage acute behavioral health emergencies effectively.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation, including progress notes, treatment plans, and medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate case management, discharge planning, and follow-up care.
- Conduct research and data collection to monitor treatment outcomes and improve service delivery.
- Provide addiction counseling within hospital settings or community-based programs, ensuring continuity of care across environments.
- Utilize diagnostic coding systems such as ICD-9, ICD-10, and CPT coding for accurate record-keeping and billing purposes.
- Engage in patient assessment activities to evaluate progress and adjust interventions accordingly, ensuring optimal behavioral health outcomes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or related field; a master's degree is preferred.
- Valid licensure or certification as an addiction counselor or behavioral health professional (e.g., CADC, LCSW).
- Proven experience in addiction medicine, mental health counseling, or clinical counseling roles.
- Strong knowledge of psychotherapy techniques including motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and behavioral management strategies.
- Familiarity with crisis management protocols and crisis intervention techniques.
- Experience working with diverse populations in settings such as hospitals, community clinics, or home-based care is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD coding systems (ICD-9/10), HIPAA regulations, and medical documentation standards.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to conduct intake interviews and patient assessments effectively.

Pay: $24.59 - $29.61 per hour
