Position Summary
Bureau Valley School District seeks a bookkeeper to serve in the district's business office. This position manages payroll from start to finish, supports staff through HR and benefits processes, manages state and federal grant reporting, and produces the financial reports the Board of Education relies on every month. The bookkeeper works closely with the Superintendent and is a visible, valued member of a small team where the work directly serves students and staff.

- Compensation: $45,000 – $60,000 annually commensurate with experience and qualifications
- Benefits: IMRF pension participation; health/dental/vision insurance; 10 days of paid vacation, 12 days of paid sick, and 3 days of personal leave; 16 paid holidays
Essential Duties
- Process semi monthly payroll in SDS Web Financial Office, including direct deposit, deductions, stipends, and payroll journal posting
- Make federal and state payroll tax deposits and prepare quarterly filings
- Submit semi monthly TRS Gemini reports and contributions and monthly IMRF wage reports
- Administer HR processes: new-hire onboarding and paperwork, employment contracts, benefits enrollment and changes, personnel records
- Prepare and submit ISBE grant expenditure reports through IWAS; track grant budgets and deadlines
- Produce monthly financial reports: treasurer's report, bank reconciliations
- Assist the Superintendent with annual budget preparation and the Annual Financial Report / audit
- Prepare and file year-end reporting: W-2s, 1099s, ACA forms
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma and significant bookkeeping, payroll, or accounting experience
- Proficiency with accounting software, Google Sheets/Docs/Forms, and Excel
- Absolute discretion with confidential employee and student information
- Organized, deadline-driven, and comfortable managing recurring compliance obligations
Preferred (candidates with any of these will receive strong consideration):
- Illinois school district or other public-sector business office experience
- Experience with SDS Web Financial Office (or a comparable school platforms)
- Familiarity with TRS, IMRF, and ISBE/IWAS reporting
- Associate or bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or a related field
