Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Journalist/Reporter to join our media team. This role involves researching, writing, editing, and producing compelling news stories across various platforms. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and storytelling skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to work under tight deadlines.
Responsibilities
- Research and gather information from credible sources to develop accurate news stories
- Write clear, engaging articles adhering to AP style guidelines
- Conduct interviews and capture photographs or videos to enhance storytelling
- Edit and proofread content for accuracy, clarity, and grammatical correctness
- Fact-check all information before publication to ensure credibility
- Manage social media channels by posting updates, engaging with audiences, and tracking analytics
- Collaborate with editors and other team members to meet publication deadlines
- Stay informed on current events and industry trends to generate relevant story ideas
- Ensure all content complies with journalistic ethics and standards
- Cover local government meetings
- Valid driver's licence and reliable car
Skills
- Proficiency in AP style writing and editing techniques
- Strong photography and videography skills, including basic video production and editing software knowledge
- Excellent communication skills for interviews and story development
- Exceptional writing, proofreading, and copy editing skills
- Experience with research methods to verify facts thoroughly
- Ability to manage social media platforms effectively for content dissemination
- Creative copywriting skills for compelling headlines and social media posts
- Knowledge of journalism ethics, fact-checking procedures, and legal considerations in reporting
