The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) assists the Director of Nursing in planning, organizing, developing, implementing, and directing the day-to-day operations of the Nursing Services Department in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, established facility policies and procedures, and under the direction of the Administrator and Director of Nursing. The ADON supports the delivery of high-quality, resident-centered care, promotes regulatory compliance, and provides clinical leadership to ensure the highest standards of nursing practice.
Assists the Director of Nursing in planning, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the Nursing Services Department.
Supports the implementation and communication of nursing policies, procedures, and clinical standards while monitoring compliance among nursing staff.
Assists with resident admissions, clinical assessments, and care coordination to ensure appropriate placement and continuity of care.
Participates in daily clinical meetings, management meetings, and interdisciplinary team conferences to discuss resident status, census, quality concerns, and operational needs.
Supervises nursing staff and provides coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback in collaboration with the Director of Nursing.
Assists with staff scheduling to ensure appropriate staffing levels that meet resident care needs, regulatory requirements, and budget expectations.
Participates in recruitment, interviewing, orientation, retention, and performance management of nursing personnel.
Conducts nursing rounds to evaluate resident care, identify clinical concerns, and ensure timely follow-up on resident needs.
Monitors documentation, resident assessments, care plans, and clinical practices to ensure compliance with regulatory and facility standards.
Assists with Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities, facility assessments, audits, and performance improvement initiatives.
Participates in infection prevention and control activities, monitors compliance with infection control practices, and assists with outbreak management as needed.
Coordinates and provides staff education, competency validation, and in-service training to promote evidence-based nursing practice.
Promotes teamwork, collaboration, accountability, and effective communication among all members of the interdisciplinary team.
Collaborates with physicians, consultants, therapists, pharmacists, residents, families, and community resources to ensure quality resident care.
Assists the Director of Nursing in preparing for state, federal, and accreditation surveys, including mock surveys, staff education, and implementation of corrective actions.
Participates in developing and monitoring Plans of Correction and ensures timely completion of follow-up actions related to survey deficiencies.
Reviews resident incidents, accidents, grievances, and unusual occurrences, ensuring appropriate investigation, documentation, and reporting.
Participates in investigations involving allegations of abuse, neglect, exploitation, or misappropriation of resident property in accordance with facility policy and regulatory requirements.
Assists with monitoring clinical quality indicators, infection surveillance, medication management, and other quality metrics to improve resident outcomes.
Supports budget management by monitoring nursing supplies, equipment, and staffing resources.
Promotes workplace safety, infection prevention, and compliance with OSHA and facility safety standards.
Provides direct nursing care when necessary to meet resident needs or support nursing operations.
Serves as the Director of Nursing in the DON's absence and assumes delegated responsibilities to ensure continuity of nursing services.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing or Administrator.
