Patient Service Representative – Full Time:
Our multi-specialty group practice is seeking an experienced Patient Service Representative to work in our Sorrento Valley headquarters facility on a full-time basis. This position will share responsibilities with our front desk personnel as well as our on-site call center operatives, providing support for our various clinics, laboratories and telehealth operations. The selected candidate will demonstrate all the skills required to effectively interact with our patients, providers and referral sources, whether face-to-face or via telephone, and be EMR / computer literate, possess a working knowledge of medical terminology, and be detail oriented, dependable, and punctual. Applicants must be available to work 8AM to 5PM M-F as well as some Saturdays (with a day off during the week).
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Provide exceptional customer service, whether via telephone while scheduling patients and ascertaining their needs for all services offered or when checking patients in and out at the front desk.
- Maintain a high level of organization in both front office and call-center workflows. In the call center, this will involve handling high call volumes, documenting calls accurately, verifying medical coverage for all types of insurances, arranging for the collection of patient history and other information prior to the office visit, and initiating the prior authorization process.
- At the front desk, this will include re-verifying the above information, confirming all prior authorizations have been obtained, and scanning all insurance, identification and other required documents into the patient record.
- In both roles, the selected applicant will proactively perform patient reminder calls, follow up with patients to reschedule missed appointments, and be sure to collect required payments (including co-pays).
Requirements for the position:
- Excellent customer service skills with at least 3 years of experience in a medical outpatient setting.
- Prior experience with eligibility verification and prior authorizations as well as familiarity with common payers including Medicaid, HMO, Tricare, VA and Workers Comp. Working knowledge of ICD-10 codes as they relate to referrals and authorizations.
- A strong demonstrated work ethic and the willingness to learn and upgrade skills on a continuing basis.
- A commitment to establish and maintain effective working relationships with medical staff, coworkers, managers, referral sources and the public.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- A high level of attention to detail with the ability to problem solve.
- Dermatology, Family Practice or Plastic Surgery experience are all huge pluses, as is bilingual fluency.
