Columbia Machine, Inc. is a U.S.-based manufacturer headquartered in Vancouver, Washington. For over 85 years, we’ve been building machinery used in concrete production, mold manufacturing, material handling, and palletizing. We are currently hiring an Assembly Technician to join our Concrete Products Assembly team and help build the machines that move industries forward.
About the Role
As an Assembly Technician, you will be responsible for assembling automated industrial machinery using prints, schematics, and drawings. This position involves more advanced mechanical and electrical assembly work, including mounting and wiring switches and terminal panels, working with hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and performing basic welding and torch work when needed.
This role requires a stronger understanding of electrical systems, print reading, and measurement tools, along with the ability to work more independently on complex assemblies. You’ll also be expected to contribute to continuous improvement efforts and help maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace.
What You’ll Do
- Assemble industrial equipment using blueprints, schematics, and drawings
- Read and interpret mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic prints
- Mount and wire switches and terminal panels to print
- Utilize advanced knowledge of electrical systems and volt meters
- Accurately measure components using a tape measure to 1/16 inch
- Identify and use SAE, metric, fine, and coarse fasteners
- Drill and tap holes manually or with air tools
- Perform basic layout work for welding and drilling
- Perform basic welding and torch work
- Use measuring instruments including dial calipers and tri-squares
- Recognize equipment components and assemblies
- Work at various heights using ladders and platforms
- Use power tools and hand tools safely and effectively
- Follow Standard Work Instructions and maintain detailed attention to quality
- Participate in safety programs, 6S, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Collaborate with team members and work across departments when needed
What You Bring
- High school diploma or GED required
- 2-4+ years of experience in mechanical or equipment assembly preferred
- Ability to read hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and intermediate electrical schematics
- Advanced knowledge of electrical systems and volt meter use
- Proficient with power tools and mechanical fasteners
- Ability to read measuring instruments including dial calipers and levels
- Comfortable working at height and around heavy machinery
- Experience with forklifts, cranes, and jib cranes preferred
- Experience with welding and torch work preferred
- Ability to perform basic layout work for welding and drilling
- Willingness to cross-train and work on multiple projects
- Ability to mentor and support team members

The salary range for this position is depending on location, experience, qualifications, and overall fit for the role. Starting compensation is determined based on a candidate's skills, relevant experience, and industry expertise. Compensation at the upper end of the range is typically reserved for individuals who bring extensive experience, specialized knowledge, and a demonstrated track record of success in the industry. Employees may also have opportunities for continued growth within the range as they develop in the role and contribute to the organization's success.
